ahem... the passenger fender is fubar and will be a test panel for my vinyl wrap skills before I wrap the whole car.

the fender will be blue brushed aluminium.

the whole car (including that fender) will be a mature dark grey

I actually like it.
I also don’t care what people think/assume when seeing mods I did to my cars, that helps.

Ahh, no, I meant the geographical here! Poor writing from my side.
I was at a classic car show a few weeks back, and you could often see from afar who owned something american. for pick-ups: middle aged men with long greasy hair and a lot of denim, cowboy hat optional. 50's cars: rockabilly style (that one is quite nice actually). 70's car: midlife crisis guy who thinks his cars is best and you shouldn’t approach it. And so on.

yeah. I think I may need to use a standard clear first, but then I am planning a subtle single coat. then wait a day or so to see how it dries before applying any additional coats.

while you’re laboring on the sanding, have you got any prospective clear test panels laying around to try your next formulation on?

Idealy you’d go to a paint shop show/tell them what you want and get something special mixed, but that is likely somewhat cost prohibitive

and yeah, I DIY because I’m a baller on a budget. and its the hobby, I like giving new things a go and just see what happens.
